Birds of a Feather: Mixed Media Avian Art

Birds of a Feather postcardA two person art show will be featured  November 5-30, 2014 at Found In Ithaca. Longtime friends Loretta and Jane will join forces to exhibit recent mixed media pieces featuring bird images.  In some cases well known adages have been illustrated to inspire the creations.

Found in Ithaca devotes a gallery space for artists who recycle, upcycle, repurpose and/or use found materials in their work.  An opening reception will be held on November 6 from 4- 6 PM. showpostcardbackbig

Both Loretta and Jane work with collage, embellishing the surfaces with glued, drawn and painted areas. The collage techniques of collecting and recycling images by cutting and pasting, of layering textures and adding drawn and painted elements all provide an avenue for developing more experimental and process driven images. The more spontaneous nature of this medium and approach allows the artist freedom to manipulate the design direction while still enjoying the happenstance qualities that evolve.

Loretta’s work focuses on images with chickens.  Her fanciful fowl live in a whimsical and colorful world. Take a ‘peep’ at some of Loretta’s imaginative friends. Visit Loretta’s blog at: http://theartmotel.wordpress.com/

Jane’s work (circuitousjourney.wordpress.com) features some favorite birds who frequent her backyard feeders.  Pieces included for display are shown unframed in the gallery below. In addition to the original framed collages exhibited at Found, Jane will also have her images printed on 5″ x 7″ blank cards for sale.  Any proceeds from the sale of these cards will be donated to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
