A Soft Spot For Crows

A Soft Spot For CrowsElwood Mayberry, RIP, was one of my many memorable art students.  He unfortunately died in a one car accident not long after he graduated from high school.  In addition to being a talented art student, Elwood also had a fondness for crows.  He wanted to give my husband Ron (also a crow fan) one of these birds.  I’m not sure how he would have been able to do this since I’ve not heard about any people having crow pets.  Of course I saw the problems inherent with keeping a species like this contained in a suburban setting and quickly squelched any possibility of this happening. Since then I have also grown to appreciate and actually have a soft spot for the intelligent Crow species. Studies and films showing these amazing birds and their ability to understand cause and effect are abundant. They are real gems in my book!

Today’s collage is another homage to the spectacular American Crow,  Corvus brachyrhynchos.  It probably won’t be the last.

One of the things I like about watching crows is that they’re so smart, maybe that was part of Elwood’s fascination too. Your collage is lovely.
